Color Burst Kids Party! Inspiring Young Artists

Last year, when I started working on the development of Color Burst, I knew there was something really special about the way the product worked...the bursts of color are fun to watch and fun to make.  And, of course, I used Color Burst with some "focus groups" to gauge user response.

I tested with local paper crafters, artists, cardmakers and kids!  I found out that kids really like the stuff!  My first focus group, my nieces and nephew, could not get enough of Color Burst...I even started recruiting friends with kids to get their response...and boy, did they like it!

And, over the summer as I've been out on the road teaching, kids and tweens are showing up in my classes in increasing numbers...which makes me really happy...inspiring young artists is one of the greatest things we can do.

Even really little kids "get" Color Burst...

If you haven't seen Color Burst yet, here's a quick video where you can see how it works.

So you can see, it's pretty cool stuff that will let you create lots and lots of watercolor looks in a variety of ways. And, here's another part of the "back story." Art therapists are using Color Burst in their therapy programs with kids and senior citizens...I've been overwhelmed with some of the stories that I've heard.  With Color Burst, nearly anyone can create something that's beautiful and it's so "instant" that it sparks a conversation that enables the therapist and client to begin the work of what art therapy is all about.

So, over the weekend, I got an email with some photos of a Color Burst Party for kids.  I could not have been happier.  It's almost like a "dream come true" kind of day for me because I am really passionate about kids and art!
Kids gain lots of skills when they create, the learn to communicate, they gain self confidence, they develop pride and self worth...just from the simple act of making art. Here are a few of the pics, so you can see how much fun they had.

The idea was pretty simple, an art day for the kids, centered around a birthday party.

And they created lots of Color Burst art.

They even used a few stencils.

You can see, they created lots and lots of really cool art.

And it's not so much "what" they created, but it's the fact that a few 8 and 9 year olds got to participate in the "creative" process.

They had lots for creative, watercolory fun.

And, each kid at the party got to create a photo frame as a souvenir of their day of art at a birthday party.  They even used my 8"x10" Mixed Media Art Board for the project.

Pretty cool, right?

I am so glad to learn that kids love Color Burst and that they're finding fun ways to create and share their art.  And, having a kids Color Burst party?  That's the coolest idea.

  3. This is fantastic! I think the early start and impact this will have on these kids will transpire for years to come. Empower kids with artful expression at such a young age will increase their confidence to create and dream! Love these ideas. I got some friends together this summer with their daughters and with my own daughter to make some artist trading cards, based off the theme of what's known as Brave Girl Truth Cards, they were quite fun to make and provided such individual expression!

  4. My 11 year old grandson, Joseph, was in my Craft Room last week when they were over for dinner and he saw some background papers that I made with Color Bursts. He asked me how I did them. I took out some watercolor paper, paint brushes, spray bottle and my Color Bursts and showed how they worked. His eyes were HUGE and he had a smile on his face that was as big as Texas! I then handed over the Color Bursts and told him to go to town!! He played around for quite a while and was so excited with his creations! His goal was to make a background that looked like flames and he was able to do it quite quickly!
He loves all things artsy and is quite accomplished at drawing. He now wants to get Color Bursts to use at home!! I see a 12 pack in his stocking this year along with lots of watercolor paper!!
He asked me if I knew the person who created them and I told him I do through facebook and your blog. He is quite interested in meeting you one day since you make such awesome stuff! LOL Thank you for being you!
