Birthday Wishes with Watercolor Floral's 6x6 Papers

Are you looking for a unique Birthday gift idea, today Buffy St'John from the Creative team has the perfect solution using the Ken Oliver Watercolor Florals 6x6 papers.

Buffy says:

Hi Everybody!

Buffy here with you again today and I have created a super cute birthday “booklet” for a dear friend whose birthday is coming soon.

I wanted this little booklet to be quick and easy, colorful, whimsical and fun.

I decided to use Ken’s Watercolor Florals 6x6 Collection

These papers are so beautiful and there are 4 each of 6 designs!

What is SO cool about this collection is that each image has a vibrant image and the other side is the pastel … of the same image!!!!!!!!!

The booklet has 6 pockets and 6 tags … these papers are perfect!

I stamped affirmative messages on each tag …

And personalize each one before I present it to my friend.

I also plan to put a couple of gift cards in the pockets

For an added surprise.

Wouldn’t these be great for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day?

I hope you enjoyed this little project

Thanks for stopping by!

'Wander' Color Burst Background Cards

Combining die cuts with Color Burst backgrounds produces beautiful cards, today Buffy St John shares two with us.

Hi Everybody! Buffy here with you again on this beautiful Spring day. Today I want to share cards...well the same card 2 ways!  I want to use the same paper and die for each card.  The first card is in the purples and moody.  I imagine it to look like a frosty late winter morning.

I started with Ken Oliver's new Water Media Paper 8.5" x 11" Oh my goodness! How I LOVE this paper!  I lightly and randomly tapped Color Burst pigments onto the dry paper (textured side up) in the following order: Fuchsia, Orchid, Tangerine and just a teensy bit (1 grain or 2!),Turquoise

I misted with water from a standing position over the paper then spritzed liberally (still standing). I then dropped: Metallic Rose, Metallic Mandarin, Metallic Sky, Platinum.  I only lightly swirled this delightful slurry of color then set it aside to dry.  I cut the foreground trees in white card stock, Distressed with Peacock Feathers and Sail Boat Blue.  I stamped “Wander” from the Wanderlust stamp using ClickIts Lamp Black.  For the second card I wanted to take the same “scene” if you will into Spring!

I followed the same process as I did with the first card.  Only this time I tapped the following Color Burst pigments: Lemon Yellow, Lime Green, Chartreuse, Turqouise.  I misted with water from a standing position over the paper, then spritzed liberally (still standing) I then dropped: Metallic Jade, Verdi Gris, Metallic Sky And my trusted friend Sepia.

As you can see, It is the same card, TWO ways!  I hope you enjoyed this project, See you next time!

Hi Everybody!
Buffy here with you today and I wanted to share a cheerful painting titled Purple Coneflower. Living in central North Carolina I am blessed to have a beautiful perennial garden for about 9 months of the year. One of my favorite flowers is the Purple Coneflower. I started with a reference photo and from there I drew this simple yet beautiful flower.

Then it came time to select the colors I wanted to use...

Color Burst, Yes!!!!! I used

I love the transparent, vibrant colors and the way they behave with each other on the paper!

The richness of the Sepia makes me so happy!

and I hope you enjoy!

2015 Photo Folio

Hello and a very Happy New Year.  Starting off 2016 today we feature Creative Team Member Buffy St John who has created a truly memorable Photo Folio to commemorate 2015 and she shares with us not only pictures but a video too!.

Buffy says:
Well it looks like another year has come and gone...where does the time go?
Every year I create a photo journal of the year that is ending; to record memories, visits with family, my gardens and the classes that I have taught as well as taken...(yes, I take a lot of classes!)

Today I would like to share a Photo Folio that I have created using

I love this collection pack, it has 2 sheets each of beautiful images plus 2 sheets of double sided 4x6 cards for journaling PLUS a sheet of beautiful matching ephemera!
I backed the ephemera sheet with a sheet of Stick It and cut out the pieces to use within the project.
I used every scrap of this collection in this project.

The stamps in these sets are beautiful and crisp, and I use Lamp Black Click It to insure a perfectly stamped image.

Vintage Boxes Storage Inspiration

Creative Team Member Buffy St John gives us a sneak peek into her studio today to share with us this wonderful storage idea.  True craftsmanship lasts a lifetime and it's wonderful to see how something old can be utilized for a new purpose, especially if it is used to store Ken Oliver Crafts Supplies.

Buffy says:
I love old things...old photos, books, luggage and dishes.
My Grandfather was quite a skilled carpenter and I remember as a child that he taught me how to hammer nails, drill holes and saw wood.
He gave me my first "toolbox" which is what I keep my favorite Ken Oliver supplies in.
I love the small wooden nail box that is the perfect size to hold my Color Burst, Pegz and Click It collection.
The larger box is the perfect size and shape to hold my Stick It, Craft mat and the beautiful 12 x 12 Ken Oliver paper collections.
I love to have my art supplies displayed so I and my students can see, use and enjoy them.
Thank you for joining me in the studio today!

How do you store your Ken Oliver Craft Supplies?.  Email your images and some information about yourself and we may feature you on our Blog and Facebook page.  Send emails to sharon@kenolivercrafts.com.

'A Cardinal in Fall'

Creative Team Member Buffy St John has shared a truly inspirational video tutorial on YouTube . Watch Buffy here as she takes you through the steps and techniques to create 'A Cardinal in Fall' using the Ken Oliver Color Burst.

Buffy says:

"When you see a red bird in winter, you will prosper in spring. When you hear a Cardinal sing, your sadness will soon be lifted. When a red bird shows up, help is on the way."

Cardinals are a constant garden companion to me here in North Carolina. I love to watch the male and female pairs come to the feeders and water features.

One of my favorite subjects to paint in winter scenes, I was inspired to paint these beautiful birds in a Fall palette using the wonderful Color Burst pigments.
These pigments are vibrant, intense and most important to me; transparent.
As a traditional watercolor artist I have found a new love...obsession if you will; Color Burst!

Thank you Buffy for sharing this awesome tutorial.
